Have your say on a cat curfew

10 May 2022

We want to hear what the Moreland community thinks about introducing a curfew for cats.

This would mean cats are not allowed outside property boundaries at certain times.

We are considering two types of curfew:

  • A 24-hour cat curfew, which would mean cats are not allowed outside of their owner’s property at all times.
  • A dusk to dawn cat curfew, which would mean cats are not allowed outside of their owner’s property at night-time.

Keeping cats inside is safer and healthier for them. A curfew would also protect wildlife and reduce noise.

If we did introduce a cat curfew, cat owners will be educated and we will offer support for transitioning cats to indoor life.

Cats would still be allowed outdoors on their owner’s property.

Your views will help inform our decision. You can fill out a survey online, or share your thoughts in person at a pop-up session.
