Changes to programs due to COVID-19

Please note: Our opening hours and capacity limits may change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the ever changing environment we are dealing with. We are seeing a number of staff needing to stay away from our spaces due to isolation requirements.

The personal safety of our staff and customers is essential, therefore we are adapting daily to ensure everyone is safe upon entering our spaces. All changes to our service will be posted through:

We operate all our programs in line with COVID-19 guidelines. Please follow public health advice, and check with Program Coordinators if you have any questions about our programs.

Drop-In Services

  • Drop-in at Oxygen and hang out in a safe and inclusive environment.

    We have a range of equipment that you can use including:

    • a pool table
    • an arcade machine
    • an outdoor table tennis table
    • WIFI
    • a foosball table
    • a computer lab
    • board games
    • a PlayStation and Xbox
    • a comfortable meeting space
    • a quiet study and prayer space
    • an internal courtyard
    • a multipurpose space with a basketball hoop
    • youth workers providing support and supervision

    January School Holidays

    Please note: these sessions are currently on hold due to the changing COVID-19 situation and limited staff

    Drop-in will reopen on Tuesday 11 January 2022 and will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm during the school holidays. These sessions are for young people aged 12 to 18 years.

    School term

    Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 5pm: for young people aged 12 to 18 years.

    Fridays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm: for young people aged 19 to 24 years.

Grants 

  • Are you an individual or community organisation with an idea that benefits and engages Moreland's young people? Grants  are available for community strengthening projects and initiatives that address key issues facing young people.  Amounts of up to $3000 available.

Homework help and tutoring

  • Please note: this program is run by Fawkner Neighbourhood House.

    Homework support for year 7 to 10 students.

    Staffed by a team of volunteer tutors who will assist students with their school work and assignments.

    Date and time

    Wednesdays, 3:30pm to 6pm during the school term.

    Location

    Online.

    Who

    Year 7 to 10 students.

    Homework support for year 7 to 12 students.

    Students will be paired up with an experienced tutor - VCE tutors available.

    A safe, quiet and calm space for students to concentrate. Supported by qualified tutors.

  • Do you want to get your Learners permit but not sure how? Our free 4 day Vic Roads 'Changing Gears' course will help you learn about the road rules and study for the test in a fun and interactive way, and all the costs of your first learners test attempt are covered!

Leadership and Youth Voice 

  • Amped Up is a Moreland youth program where a group of young people aged between 16 and 24 plan and organise live music events that take place in Moreland.

    The Amped Up team run over 5 community music events each year including the Oxygen Stage at the annual Sydney Road Street Party. You can find out more about this event on our Sydney Road Street Party page.

    Tuesdays from 4pm to 5:30pm

    After COVID-19 restrictions began, the Amped Up team have been sharing youth-led ideas online. This included Amped Up TV on the @ampedupfreeza instagram account. They also created their very own zine. These ideas helped to support artists, musicians, local youth and the general community.

    In 2021 the Amped Up team hopes to get back to hosting live events. We are always mindful of restrictions and follow these when deciding whether we should meet up online or in person.

    Who is Amped Up for?

    For young people aged 16 and 24 years, interested in the arts and supporting the community. 

    You do not have to have any prior experience to join, just passion and commitment.

  • The Youth Ambassadors Program, is a new initiative of Council, involving 12 young people from diverse backgrounds across Moreland, to actively participate in representative democracy.

    The 12 Youth Ambassadors have the opportunity to discuss, debate and develop solutions to issues that are important to them; and allow other stakeholders within Council and community, to seek their input into policy and projects, as deemed relevant by them.

    When can I register?

    The Youth Ambassador’s term is two years. Intake for the next program will be in mid-2022.

    Would you like to help make Moreland a better place for everyone?

    Moreland City Council are currently seeking young people to join Moreland City Council’s Advisory Committees and Reference Groups. These groups meet approximately 4 times a year and provide guidance and ideas that shape council policy.

    There are 4 advisory committees and 5 reference groups to choose from. We would love to see young people represented on each of them.

LGBTQIA+

  • Bring along your pre-loved clothes, shoes, and accessories and sustainably find new outfits to express yourself. Get some cool new artworks and support local Queer artists, and hang out with local LGBTQIA+ organisations with a heap of resources!

    There'll be art and badge-making stations, board games, and a quiet area where you can chill out and check out some library books.

    Who

    LGBTQIA+ identifying people aged 12 to 25 years old as well as the adults in their lives!

Music

Sport, health, and wellbeing

  • Helping Hoops Power is a basketball program for females (and female identifying) aged 10 and up and is a fun way to learn skills and play basketball - no experience needed.

    Date and time

    Every Monday, 4pm to 5:30pm during the school term.

    Location

    These classes are held  at Fawkner Leisure Centre,
    79/83 Jukes Rd, Fawkner VIC 3060.

    Who

    This is a female-only class, so we ask that only female-identifying young people 10 years and older attend. All sisters, aunties, mothers and all your female friends can attend too.

    You do not have to have any prior basketball experience to join in with us, we welcome anyone from beginners to experts.

    What should I bring to the class?

    Make sure to wear exercise friendly clothing and bring a drink bottle and a towel.

  • Free boxing classes with professional boxing instructor Stephanie Mfongwot! No experience needed, classes will be tailored to all abilities and skill levels. Beginners welcome!
