Donate to Friends of Aileu's COVID-19 emergency campaign
Friends of Aileu, supported by Moreland and Hume City Councils, stands in solidarity with the people of Aileu, Timor-Leste, as they meet the challenge of managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Like the more vulnerable community members in Moreland and Hume, our friends in Aileu are facing many challenges as they adjust to the demands of managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
The restrictions on association and movement adopted under the national State of Emergency are even more difficult for people living in rural areas of Timor-Leste, with a heavy reliance on local agriculture and difficult access to local and capital city markets, where there are less well-developed community services, and where reliable access to clean water is very limited.
The pandemic and State of Emergency is severely limiting the ability of many households to gain the small cash incomes essential for buying household commodities such as rice, oil, salt and sugar.
All funds raised will be used to support initiatives of the people of Aileu to address urgent medical and livelihood support needs resulting from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly targeting those experiencing disadvantages such as poverty and isolation.
