Council-managed community venues
Council is the custodian of a number of buildings across the municipality. Some of these are community venues, managed by Council that are available for venue hire.
Council recognises the contribution that community groups, clubs and organisations give to making Moreland a thriving community which supports and celebrates diversity. The demand for community meeting space is increasing, driven by population growth and the emerging needs of migrant and refugee communities.
Council needs to define its approach to venue management to ensure that we responsibly manage our suite of community assets as well as meet the needs of our community, both now and into the future. In particular, we need to ensure that the allocation of venue space and the application of discounting is consistent with Council objectives and considers:
- The purpose of our Council-managed community venues
- The intended community benefit of our Council-managed community venues
- Principles of equity
- Responsible management of Council-managed community venues and financial sustainability, and
- Alignment to our Council Plan and Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan objectives.
