Purgatory by Kate Hodgetts
NOIR Darkroom Window Gallery Exhibition.
The works in Purgatory have been created with all of the traditional tools of photography: camera, film, paper, light and chemistry.
But rather than presenting a view of a reality past, these photographs present only themselves; abstract in form. Inspired largely by avant-garde sensibilities, Kate's practice is driven by curiosity and experimentation.
Here, through the manipulation of photographic negatives, previously captured moments become a cacophony of line, tone and film grain.
Their ghosts are momentarily set free, only to be caught again, this time in a different and unrecognisable configuration.
