Green waste

Residents and businesses can recycle garden waste by ordering a green waste bin from Council. There is a one-off fee.

When green waste bins are collected

Council collects your green waste bin every 2 weeks on the same day as your garbage bin. The day of your green waste collection depends on where you live.

See Christmas and New Year opening hours.

Please place your bin out by 5.30 am of collection day, preferably the night before. Bins are usually collected in the morning.

Bins that are overfilled or weigh more than 30 kilograms will not be collected.

Garden waste must be inside the green waste bin with the lid fully closed. Any waste left on top of, or beside, the bin will not be collected.

Council conducts random inspections of recycling bins and green waste bins to ensure residents are putting the right items in the right bin and to reduce the impact of contamination.

Make sure there are no objects within 30 centimetres of the bin such as a car, tree or another bin.

If you live on a court or bowl place your bin along the straight edge, not on the corner.

Damaged, lost or stolen green waste bins

New bins and bin replacements has information on how to have your green waste bin repaired or replaced.

What happens to green waste after it is collected

The garden waste that you place in your green waste bin is taken to a local processor where it is turned into mulch or compost. These products are treated to meet Australian standards. Visit Back to Earth to find out more about the green waste recycling process.

Keeping green waste out of landfill helps to reduce carbon emissions. Buying back green waste in the form of compost or mulch closes the loop on green waste recycling.

For more information on using and purchasing compost and mulch visit the Healthy and Sustainable Garden Program.

Other places to take green waste
